Within the age structure of the population, individuals aged 0-14 years make up 16.8%, individuals aged 15-64 years make up 72.3%, and individuals 65 and older comprise 10.8% of the total population.
With 48.6 million people inhabiting an area roughly the size of Indiana, the Republic of Korea has one of the world's highest population densities. Major population centers are located in the northwest, southeast, and in the plains south of the Seoul-Incheon area.
