In 2009, the population of Brunei Darussalam was estimated at 406,200 persons and the economy has an estimated annual growth rate of 2.1 percent. The people of Brunei are referred to as “Bruneian(s).”
About one-third of the population is under the age of fifteen, while about 3 percent are over 65. The life expectancy for men in Brunei is around 77 years while women in the economy live, on average, to almost 80 years. The high life expectancy of Brunei citizens is due in part to the country’s outstanding health care system. Bruneians adhere to the practice of using complete full names with all titles, including the title Haji (for men) or Hajah (for women) for those who have made the Hajj pilgrimage to the Islamic holy city of Mecca. ..continue |
